Dental implants Replacing
a missing tooth
Why is it important? "Teeth in a day"

Dental implants are intended for people who have lost one or more teeth as a result of dislocation, extraction ora result of tooth decay.

The surgery to place the implants can be performed on individuals who have completed their jawbone growth, which occurs between the ages of 17 and 18.

The placement of the implant is not an end in itself, since it must be completed by a prosthesis that will cover it.

Replacing
a missing tooth

The stability of a natural dentition comes from the fact that all the teeth touch each other, support each other and share the chewing effort.

When a tooth is lost, the tooth opposite it becomes useless and seeks to regain the lost tooth and function by moving to the opposite edentulous space.

The root becomes exposed to the air and the tooth becomes more sensitive to cold, sweet foods and touch.

In addition, food tends to get lodged between the uneven teeth and encourages the development of cavities or periodontitis (bone or gum disease).

Why is it important?

The molar following the lost tooth shifts by sliding and leaning forward, causing more difficult maintenance and a problem of inflammation of the bone and gum.

Thus, over the years, a single unreplaced tooth could lead to the loss of its neighbours. The remaining teeth, overworked and destabilised, will also start to shift, and the phenomenon will be amplified until the teeth and bone structure gradually disappear.

Regardless of the number of teeth lost, implantology can restore the mouth to its natural function and brilliance.

Benefits of dental implants

Dental implants are also known for their longevity; they normally never need to be replaced. The placement of an implant followed by a crown spares potentially healthy adjacent teeth, unlike a bridge which affects them.

Efficiency

They do not slip or move

Simplicity

Easier to chew with implants

Aesthetics

The feel of natural teeth

How is the surgery performed?

Before any surgery, the practitioner assesses the patient’s oral health in order to provide the most appropriate solution.

The practitioner performs a clinical examination, which is often supplemented by an X-ray of the teeth. In order to offer you quality services, Dr. Beck’s practice is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging equipment. The placement of a dental implant is a simple medical procedure, performed under local anaesthetic by an implantologist.

It takes place in two stages. In the first operation, the dentist cuts the gum where the implant will be placed to gain access to the alveolar bone. The implant is then screwed into the root of the tooth. In most cases, there is little or no pain after the operation.

A painkiller and an anti-inflammatory can be prescribed if necessary. After a few months of waiting, which is essential for healing, a second operation consists of placing the artificial tooth, a crown, a bridge or a prosthesis.
